About Us
Süleyman Demirel University Department of Biology was established in 1992. It started education with its first students in 1993-1994 semester. Our aims; to teach basic biology knowledge, to gain the ability to conduct research within the framework of scientific method, to develop experimental skills, to instill awareness of the protection of the natural environment and to train well-equipped students in the field at national and international level. It has 5 major fields of study as Botany, General Biology, Hydrobiology, Molecular Biology and Zoology. 14 professors, 2 associate professors, 1 assistant professors, 2 research assistants and 1 lecturer give training in the department. There are 11 research laboratories, mainly Entomology, Plant Physiology, Plant Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Hydrobiology, and 2 student laboratories where practice courses are held. There is also an international herbarium (coded GUL), containing 25000 plant samples, and an Ecological Products Laboratory. Almost every year, an event is held under the name of Biology Day, in which academicians and students from various universities present their presentations. There is also a student community affiliated with the department. The Biological Research Club (BAT) organizes planting activities, technical trips, etc. in each semester. Our graduates can pursue academic careers in fields such as basic sciences, medicine, pharmacy and veterinary medicine, as well as work in the Ministry of National Education, state or private hospital laboratories, the pharmaceutical industry, and institutions and organizations affiliated with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry.
