Career opportunities

The graduates are employed by both government agencies and private sector companies for geological mapping studies, seismotectonic evaluations, engineering geology studies, exploration of mineral deposits, coal, petroleum, or groundwater, and by universities as teaching staff.

Geologists are employed by government agencies at national and city levels (ex: DSİ, MTA, TKİ, TPOA); by private sector companies for geological mapping studies, seismotectonic evaluations, engineering geology studies, exploration of mineral deposits, coal, petroleum, or groundwater, and by universities as teaching staff by independent consulting firms to work with engineers, architects and planners; in the construction, petroleum industries; and as teachers in elementary and high schools and at the college level.
Geologists who have graduated from SDU are employed, for example, in prospecting for copper deposits in the Black Sea region, coal in Aegean region, and oil in the South Anatolian region; evaluating the effects of forest roads on and quarries; determining the dangers of ground water contamination by a proposed industrial site; prospecting for geothermal power sites; and in teaching at all levels.
