History

The Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences at Süleyman Demirel University traces its roots to the Isparta State Academy of Engineering and Architecture, established on February 21, 1976, by Law No. 1418. The Academy commenced education in the 1976-1977 academic year with the Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering departments in the Gülkent Secondary School building, owned by the Ministry of National Education.

With Decree Law No. 41, enacted on July 20, 1982, it was affiliated with Akdeniz University and renamed the "Isparta Faculty of Engineering." During this period, new departments were added to the faculty: Geological Engineering (1983-1984), Mining Engineering (1987-1988), Geophysical Engineering (1988-1989), and Environmental Engineering (1992).

The faculty, incorporated into Süleyman Demirel University, established by Law No. 3837 dated July 11, 1992, continued its educational activities under the name of Faculty of Engineering and Architecture. The Council of Higher Education's decision dated December 28, 1993, approved the opening of the Departments of Architecture, Textile Engineering, and Electronics and Communication Engineering; these departments began accepting students starting in the 1995-1996 academic year.

With the same law in 1992, the Departments of Industrial Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Urban and Regional Planning were also established. The first student placements were made in the Urban and Regional Planning Department in the 2005-2006 academic year. The Industrial Engineering and Computer Engineering departments began teaching in the 2006-2007 academic year. The Department of Food Engineering was incorporated in the 2007-2008 academic year.

With these developments, the faculty began to operate with a total of 13 departments. Evening programs were also offered in the departments of Civil, Mechanical, Geology, Mining, Geophysics, Textile, and Electrical and Electronics Engineering. All departments within the faculty are located on the Çünür West Campus of Süleyman Demirel University.

By a Council of Ministers Decree dated March 8, 2012, the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture was divided into two and restructured as the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Architecture. Following this reorganization, the following departments continued to operate within the Faculty of Engineering: Computer, Environmental, Electrical and Electronics, Industrial, Food, Civil, Geophysics, Geology, Chemistry, Mining, Mechanical, Automotive, and Textile Engineering.

By Presidential Decree No. 7477 dated August 4, 2023, the faculty's name was changed to the "Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences." Under this new name, our faculty continues its education, research, and community service activities.
